A recent Clinical trial showed that 24 lessons in the Alexander Technique reduces back pain from 21 days a month in pain to just 3 days. This is a very significant finding. The pilot study of the back pain trial was run here in Brighton and I headed the team of teachers and acted as a consultant to the trial organisers.

It’s not relaxation therapy although it is relaxing and energising, in fact it’s not a therapy at all but more of a re-education. It is not posture control either; many people get the idea that it is about getting in the right position or sitting up straight. It isn't at all. However most people will enjoy improved posture. I do not diagnose disease, my expertise is in the use of the body as a whole. I teach people to become more aware of how they use themselves in everyday activities. It can help to improve your breathing, circulation, muscle tension, balance and co-ordination and help you stay calmer and think on your feet.
