I teach a lot of musicians and singers. For many years I have taught at the AIMS singing summer school. Next year this will be re-locating from Ardingly to Eastbourne and I will go with them.
Singers, musicians, actors and dancers all need physical balance in their bodies if they are to avoid injury, including vocal injury. Alexander lessons can help rehabilitate an injured performer but more importantly can release the full potential that may be trapped in unwitting tension habits.
As a pianist myself I particularly enjoy working with keyboard players.
Your body is a resonate chamber whatever your instrument and a tight body produces a tight sound on a piano-regardless of how good the instrument is-it’s your personal instrument that’s counts-the one you carry around all day-your own self.
Sitting in balance is the key to a good sound. Having a ‘working’ back that supports your shoulder girdle properly allows free movement of your arms, wrists, hands and fingers. Many pianists with RSI or carpal tunnel syndrome problems are tight in their backs.
